Thai Handwoven Cotton Sarongs

Hand woven by a family business in central Thailand these 100% cotton sarongs are made from a hard-wearing, durable cotton and designed to give several years of use.

Traditionally the edges of these sarongs are left unstitched, cut to size with the edges then stitched together to form a tube, see "How to tie a sarong". If you would like us to have the edges of your sarong turned and stitched for you send us a message at the same time you submit your order, don't forget to quote your order number, it will take a few days longer but we will be happy to arrange for you.

As these cotton sarongs are hand woven all sizes and weights quoted below are to be taken as approximate.

Thai Handwoven Cotton Scarves, Shirts and Dress

The handwoven Thai cotton scarves and shirts shown below are all handcrafted by the Karen, an ethnic hilltribe people living mainly in the mountains of northern and north-west Thailand, using traditional weaving methods passed down through the generations. The dress and shirts are the traditional clothing worn by the Karen while the scarves have been adapted to suit modern fashion, cool in summer and warm in winter with a soft, silky texture.

The Karen people are migrants from neighbouring Myanmar (Burma) are not Thai citizens and therefore receive no assistance from the Thai government for basic amenities such as clean water supply and schooling, they subsist mainly on crops and rice cultivated by themselves and the sale of their handcrafted
