From
the country of Laos we are very pleased to be able to bring you this exquisite neckwear collection of hand spun and hand woven
silk scarf. As in neighbouring Thailand the people of Laos
have
been spinning and weaving silk
for many hundreds of years, however, Laos silk is known to be much
softer than Thai silks. Possibly one reason for this is the excellent
soil suited to the growing of the Mulberry trees that provide the
leaves upon which the silkworm caterpillar feeds.
The collecting, washing and "throwing" (the process of twisting
together seperate silk strands) is carried out by hand in the same
way as it has been done over the centuries. No chemicals are used in
the process and natural dyes are used for colouring. As well as its
natural beauty silk
is known for its strength and durability, it is
said that Laos silk will last for over a hundred years without losing
its colour and its soft, elegant qualities. Even in the present day the
women of Laos still wear the traditional wraparound silk skirt, known
as phaa sin, in offices, schools and universities, with each province having its own distinctive designs.
The end result of this process is a truly beautiful and stunning silk scarf, warm in
winter and cool in summer, that will stand out on any occasion, formal or informal or even at the beach.
Do
not confuse these silk scarves with the cheaper, factory produced
scarves now readily available from some countries, all the silk scarves
presented here are the genuine article and as unique as the best designer scarves! All of our silk scarves are bought directly from the villagers who weave them
enabling us to be able to offer them to you at very low prices, similar
silk scarves can be found on the internet for upwards of US$100-150, more

Silk Care Instructions: Small
imperfections are considered normal and the natural in hand woven silk,
do not attempt to pull loose threads free, roll bewtween your fingers into a small ball or cut with scissors. Hand wash or dry-clean only.
All sizes shown are to be taken as approximate and designs may vary
slightly. Colours may vary depending on the light, in our larger sized
photos the models were photographed in daylight, not direct sunlight,
without any additional lighting. The close-up photos were taken indoors
without any additional lighting and are intended to show you a close-up
of the silk pattern and weave.
